Ford&#8217;s revenue and profit both fell short of analysts&#8217; estimates, shortfalls that executives attributed to lost production following the United Auto Workers&#8217; decision to strike three of Ford&#8217;s key U.S. factories, including an important truck factory in Kentucky.<\/p>\n<p>The results were a stark contrast to rival <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-4\">General Motors<span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"><\/span><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>&#8216; third-quarter report Tuesday. GM&#8217;s revenue and profit both handily beat Wall Street estimates.<\/p>\n<p>Ford on Wednesday night became the first of the three Detroit automakers to reach a tentative agreement with the UAW. It won a surprising concession that should help its fourth-quarter numbers: Striking workers will return to their jobs before the new deal is officially ratified.<\/p>\n<p>But Ford&#8217;s new contract will be an expensive one.
