He did not specify whether it would be electric.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"Placeholder-ArticleBody-Video-107323447\">\n<div role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" id=\"Placeholder-ArticleBody-Video-107323447\" class=\"PlaceHolder-wrapper\" data-vilynx-id=\"7000320304\" data-test=\"VideoPlaceHolder\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-videoEmbed\" id=\"InlineVideo-0\" data-test=\"InlineVideo\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-inlineThumbnailContainer\"><span class=\"InlineVideo-videoButton\"><\/span><span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Tech companies have long sought to build customer loyalty with operating systems, such as <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-3\">Apple<span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"><\/span><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>&#8216;s iOS and <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-4\">Google<span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"><\/span><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>&#8216;s Android.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei developed its own operating system, called HarmonyOS, in a bid to replace Android. The company makes its own suite of smartphones, laptops, tablets and television sets, while selling the software for electric cars manufactured by partners.<\/p>\n<p>In late September, Huawei claimed its operating system had surpassed 60 million users.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese electric car company <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-6\">Nio<span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"><\/span><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> this fall also released its own smartphone, based on Android but customized for greater integration with its vehicles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<div class=\"RelatedContent-relatedContent\" id=\"RegularArticle-RelatedContent-1\">\n<div class=\"RelatedContent-container\">\n<div class=\"RelatedContent-nonCollapsibleContent\">\n<h2 class=\"RelatedContent-header\">Read more about China from CNBC Pro<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Xiaomi rose to fame for its affordable smartphones and MIUI user interface, based on open source Android.<\/p>\n<p>The company said the core of its new HyperOS system is &#8220;formed by Linux and Xiaomi&#8217;s self-developed Xiaomi Vela system.&#8221; The press release&#8217;s only mention of Android was that HyperOS allows for &#8220;more stable frame rate and lower power consumption&#8221; compared to the stock version of Android.<\/p>\n<p>Xiaomi also touted HyperOS&#8217;s processing speed and security, and listed a number of ways in which a smartphone, car and laptop could easily share content and access each other&#8217;s cameras on the new system.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, Xiaomi has grown its appliance and consumer electronics business to account for about 22% of overall revenue in the second quarter, versus just under 37% for smartphones.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the company released a 3,999 yuan ($546) smartphone as well as a 1,999 yuan washing machine and a 2,999 yuan refrigerator.
