The UAW did not expand its strikes at <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-6\">Ford<span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"><\/span><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>, citing progress in those talks.<\/p>\n<p>Like a week earlier, it&#8217;s expected that UAW President Shawn Fain will host a Facebook Live event to announce which plants will walk out at noon Friday, barring progress in the talks.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0strikes currently involve\u00a0about 18,300 workers, or 12.5% of the UAW&#8217;s 146,000 members whose labor contracts expired on Sept. 14.<\/p>\n<p>Fain previously said the union planned to\u00a0increase the work stoppages, based on how negotiations with the companies were going. The union is calling the work stoppages &#8220;stand-up strikes,&#8221; a nod to historic &#8220;sit-down&#8221; strikes by the UAW in the 1930s.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"Placeholder-ArticleBody-Video-107306969\">\n<div role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" id=\"Placeholder-ArticleBody-Video-107306969\" class=\"PlaceHolder-wrapper\" data-vilynx-id=\"7000316788\" data-test=\"VideoPlaceHolder\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-videoEmbed\" id=\"InlineVideo-0\" data-test=\"InlineVideo\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-inlineThumbnailContainer\"><span class=\"InlineVideo-videoButton\"><\/span><span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Spokespeople for the Detroit automakers did not immediately respond for comment on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The additional strike plans come despite record contract offers from the automakers that include roughly 20% hourly wage increases, thousands of dollars in bonuses, retention of the union&#8217;s platinum health care and other sweetened benefits.<\/p>\n<p>The union&#8217;s new deadline comes a day after President Joe Biden joined Fain and union members, becoming the first known sitting president to walk a picket line with striking autoworkers.
