\n Microsoft
\n \u2018s cloud-computing services for artificial intelligence might be more profitable than initially expected, Bernstein says.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, analyst Mark Moerdler reaffirmed his Outperform rating on
\n Microsoft
\n stock (ticker: MSFT) and slightly increased his price target for the shares to $400 from $398.<\/p>\n

Microsoft shares closed 0.1% lower Tuesday at $328.65.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cMicrosoft has jumped to the lead in building Generative AI offerings, platform software, and design architectures to help clients monetize their data and AI,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThey are aggressively investing in GPU [graphics processing unit] \/ AI supercomputers to meet the strong demand.\u201d<\/p>\n

The analyst estimates a cloud computing vendor like Microsoft can generate about $1.50 per hour or roughly $1,000 a month from one
\n Nvidia
\n (NVDA) A100 GPU. After running the financial model, he says the GPU rental business alone\u2014without any additional software or services\u2014could generate a 42% gross margin.<\/p>\n

The negative \u201cimpact on [Microsoft\u2019s] Azure margins from Generative AI [is] smaller than expected,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

Moerdler also sees Microsoft adding more higher-profit-margin technologies\u2014including pre-built AI models and other AI services\u2014which could drive revenue and profitability higher.<\/p>\n

Microsoft itself has been optimistic about its AI prospects. Earlier this month, Microsoft CFO Amy Hood confirmed the company\u2019s prior forecast that its suite of AI tools will reach $10 billion in revenue faster than any other software business in its history.<\/p>\n
